![]() ![]() (this is probably a bug the emulator will search the ROMS in /usr/local/lib even if the installation is a 64 bit one and the install program will put the libraries under /usr/local/lib64/)Ħ) type 圆4 and Enjoy! (this thing evokes a tear. On my netbook, I have a coffee after the "make"./configure -enable-gnomeuiĥ) if you machine is 64 bit, do the following (as root) cd /usr/local/lib (compact instructions - tell me if you need more details).Ģ) unpack it where you want tar xvzf vice-3.1.tar.gzģ) install required dev libraries: sudo apt install build-essential libvte-dev libasound2-dev libgtk2.0-dev libgnome2-dev byacc flexĤ) configure, compile and install (it will go in /usr/local/). Your device should have picked the right file automatically. ![]() ![]() Power on the device and watch the lights flash for a while. You can compile the native version pretty easily (well.). If your device is set up correctly (boot loader installed, should have been done by the manufacturer) you can just unzip sd2iec-current-binaries.zip to your SD root. Seems a quite live project! Original content: and it seems to work (the lib hack is not needed anymore). I managed to compile it with trial-and-errors adding the following libraries: sudo apt install xa65 libreadline-dev libxaw7-dev libgtkmm-3.0-dev libpulse-dev I don't think is really possible to have a fair comparison of the two, but I think AF is superior, because it basically expands and builds on top of WinUAE.Īll true, however without WineUAE, AF would be nothing more than a front end with stuff you cannot launch, so if anything I reckon WinUAE is far superior.Update - there is a new release now, 3.3, and as 3.2, works great. You can just carry your DVD with you and have everything you need to start you emulation, even if using somebody else's computer. Same point for the kickstart and workbench files.Īnother advantages of AF is portability. Granted most of the stuff can be found in the net, however is nice to have everything in one place without having to search around. The AF DVD also already come with games and the full version has other goodies, like videos and various pdf documents. As indicated before it uses WinUAE which you can also run outside the front end loader and configure in any which way you want.ĪF includes a service that can update WinUAE automatically when a new version is released. However a full install also adds more benefits. Nonefornow wrote:AF does not need to be installed to use it - it runs straight from the DVD. If you install the current (unregistered) Express Edition version of C64 Forever over a previous (registered) Plus Edition, the new version will work in Express Edition mode until it is registered with a new (standard or update) license. WinUAE is a far more powerful and feature packed emulator but for those just wanting to load up a game and play it and / or wanting a nice looking front end to launch games from, FS-UAE takes some beating I think. Not only does FS-UAE allow you to use WHDLoad in an easy hassle free way, it'll also grab the correct configurations for each game from an online database along with box art and screenshots for use in both the FS-UAE Launcher and FS-UAE Arcade frontends (Arcade looks amazing!). The build in WHDLoad support FS-UAE has gives it a massive edge, WinUAE takes a fair bit of setting up for WHDLoad games to work and Amiga Forever, while it does have built in support it's not that easy to get them running. Follow up to my 1st video introducing the C64 Mini,Here is a instruction video to introduce games to the c64 miniAffiliated links incase you wish to buy the. That's main advantage of it but tbh, once you know what you're doing, it's usually better switching to something else.Īnother potentially controversial opinion and I've said this before, but in my opinion at least for people just wanting to play games, FS-UAE beats both. Tbh, only advantage of Amiga Forever is it's an easy "pick up and play" option, Amiga emulation can be daunting for people who are completely new to it and Amiga Forever works out of the box, and also comes with the Kickstart ROMs which aren't legally available elsewhere. Dubbed simply ‘The C64’, the new unit comes at a substantially higher sticker price than its pint-sized predecessor (199AUD/£109.99GBP compared to 149AUD/£69.99GBP), but with that increase. I never had any problems when using WHDLoad stuff, but back when I was using standard ADFs there were often problems and crashes. Amiga Forever though, it basically IS WinUAE, it uses WinUAE at its core and is essentially WinUAE packed up in a simpler, easy to use interface but it's not without problems and as you point out, some games don't work too well, or at all. I'd not say that puts the cat amongst the pigeons tbh as most people, myself included, would agree with you, lol. ![]()
